Joe Vaughn Nelson

Joe Vaughn Nelson, age 84, of Pierce City, MO, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at his residence. Joe was born on August 1, 1925, in Galena, MO, the son of the late Samuel Nelson and Ula Elizabeth (Scott) Nelson. Joe served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on February 10, 1945. Joe had been a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by his wife of over twenty-six years, Patsy (Shiflet) Nelson, of the home; one son, Joe Lynn Nelson and his wife Diana, of Pierce City; three daughters, Sharon Durkin and her husband Jim, of Monett, MO, Marilyn Moss and her husband Russell, of Rogers, AR, and Marsha Chapman, of Miller, MO; three sisters, Betty Lou Land and her husband Bill, of Monett, Eva Mae McLean, of Post Falls, ID, and Marie Vantuyl, of El Mirage, AZ; one brother, Charlie Nelson and his wife Nell, of Monett; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Graveside services for Mr. Nelson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Pierce City Cemetery. Those gentlemen honoring his life by serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Skocy, Kyle Russell, Cory Sooter, Travis Nelson, T.J. Moss and Joel Chapman. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
