Bettye Jo Carpenter

March 20, 1928 - February 3, 2010

Bettye Jo (Fine) Carpenter, age 81, of Purdy, MO, went home to peace and comfort on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 7:30 a.m. while in St. Louis University Hospital. She was met by her husband of 60 years, Harold, and sons, Harold Wayne and Donnie Bruce.

Bettye was born on March 20, 1928, in Littlefield, TX. She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She also worked outside the home, first selling Avon and later as Head Cook at Decatur Community Hospital for 14 years. She was a Southern Baptist, a church member at Hicks Chapel and Pleasant View in Texas, and at Purdy First Baptist in Missouri. Bettye was an avid and proficient bowler, loved Southern Gospel music, spoiling her great-grandchildren, and game show television.

Bettye is survived by her son, Deaun Carpenter, and his wife Marsha, of Bridgeport, TX; one daughter, Patricia Camp, and her husband David, of Purdy, MO; three grandsons, Scott and wife Pauline, Brent and wife Misty, and David and wife Michelle; one granddaughter, Virginia and husband Damon Force; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, James Fine. Bettye is also survived by brother-in-laws Newell Carpenter and his wife Ruth, Jim Carpenter and his wife Frankie; sister-in-laws Jerry and her husband Tom Warren, Hazel and her husband Sam Bradley, Oleta, Barbara Carpenter and Bonnie Carpenter.

Bettye was also preceded in death by her parents, Maggie Pearl and George Wesley Fine; four brothers, five sisters and a host of other family and loved ones.

We will hold her in our hearts and miss her dearly.

Services will be held in Bridgeport, TX.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
